Cats vs Tigers
Round 3

Port Augusta Braves played Panthers last Friday night in Port Pirie Baseball.  The Panthers played off in last year's grand final, losing narrowly to Tigers.
The Panthers took the initiative early scoring one run in each of the first two innings.  Both runs were the result of errors made in the outfield by the Braves.  The Braves added one run in the bottom of the second after Paul Langdon drove in a run.  The Panthers held a 2 - 1 lead.
Danny Busk was pitching well for the Braves, racking up plenty of strikeouts.  However, in the bottom of the third the Panthers scored three runs off a three run home run.  In reply, the Braves matched the Panthers through the great hitting of Mark Press.  With two outs and loaded bases, Press laced a double to right field to bring in three valuable runs.  After three innings, the Braves were only trailing by one run.
In the top of the fourth, the Braves changed pitchers giving the ball to Garred Birrell.  The Panthers were unable to score in their final two innings while the Braves added four to take the win 8 - 5.
Danny Busk started and pitched well giving up 4 earned runs, 6 hits and 6 strikeouts.  Birrell picked up the win with his effort in the last two innings while Paul Langdon was outstanding with the bat picking up three safe hits in three at bats.  The Braves play Cats next Friday night after the Cats recorded their first win of the season against Tigers in the late game.

Hits (Braves):  P. Langdon 3; A. Fowler 2; D. Busk, M. Press, D. Manson 1.
Winning pitcher: G. Birrell (two innings, 0 earned runs, three strikeouts and one hit).
